The Conversational Piece [2022]
[with Mariella Maier] Collaborative intervention series at Kunsthaus Dahlem with Grupi ATA, a self-organised, activist art collective from Kamza, Albania, consisting of artists and jurists. In their stigmatised municipality on the outskirts of Tirana, there is neither a cinema nor a library, a radio station nor a newspaper. Achieved, with the help of Augusto Boal's theatrical pedagogical method, is the questioning of the patriarchal Albanian customary law called Kanun, but they also try to seek in it and reinterpret certain aspects that might reveal their contemporary relevance related to questions of public spaces, the commons and building communal and democratic decision-making processes. The presentation of Grupi ATA takes place in the context of a dinner, inspired by the art of conversation as a political and artistic tool. Thereby, the definition of the studio is questioned, both in the way of the invitation to a common dinner and by getting to know Grupi ATA, whose working space is primarily the public one.
